Get Grapefruit and Get Lean

According to a study in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, an alkaloid called p-synephrine can help you lose up to 2 pounds of fat per month. P-synephrine is commonly found in citrus fruits such as grapefruit and oranges but can also be purchased as extract of bitter orange.

Although p-synephrine is used in a wide range of weight loss products, there isn’t an abundance of scientific information regarding its effectiveness as a fat burner.

So this study was to analyze its role in burning fat during exercise. One hour before exercising, test subjects ingested either a placebo or 1.5mg of p-synephrine per pound of body mass and then rode a stationary bike. When their energy expenditure was measured, researchers found that those who received the p-synephrine burned more fat!

The acute ingestion of p-synephrine increased the fat oxidation rate while it reduced the carbohydrate oxidation rate when exercising at low-to-moderate exercise intensities. Read the full article here →

So if fat loss is your goal, Bitter Orange may be worth a look. In addition to its fat burning benefits, the study found that p-synephrine did not cause any increase in heart rate either!
